IMX219 Night Vision Kit: Two IR Lamps and Cables for Any Raspberry Pi Connector

ZHUYUNHUA |

Putting together a night camera often means ordering the camera, lamps and the right cable separately. Chinneo's IMX219 8MP night vision camera module with 2 IR LEDs puts two IR lamp boards and both 22PIN and 15PIN cables in the box.

Key specs

Common specifications

Versions

  • 79 degree Night Vision version: 2.85mm focal length, F2.0, 79 degree diagonal field of view, distortion <1%, 25mm x 24mm board
  • 160 degree Night Vision version: 1.75mm focal length, F2.65, 160 degree diagonal field of view, distortion <-17.6%, 25mm x 24mm board
  • 160 degree IR-CUT version: 1.75mm focal length, F2.65, 160 degree diagonal field of view, distortion <-17.6%, IR-CUT switching between 650 and 850 filters

What is in the box

  • The development boards shown in the illustrations are not included

The three versions

  • 79 degree night vision: a moderate field for single zones.
  • 160 degree night vision: a wide field for whole rooms.
  • 160 degree with IR-CUT: the filter switches between 650 and 850 filters, giving natural daytime colour and infrared sensitivity at night.

How the lamps switch

The IR lamps carry a photoresistor and an adjustable threshold, so they turn on automatically when it gets dark. They can also be switched through the Raspberry Pi GPIO.

Questions to settle before you order

  • The lamps' wavelength and power, which are not specified for this product.
  • Cable lengths.
  • The MIPI lane count, which is not specified.

A figure we left out

The parameter table gives one board size for all versions, but the IR-CUT board drawing is larger. This guide does not quote a size for the IR-CUT version.

See all three versions on the IMX219 night vision kit page.
